City Hope 2009

Elk Grove City Hope 2009
“Reaching Our Region with the Love and Compassion of Christ”
Mission Statement
CityHope was a campaign that united churches from the Elk Grove region with their local communities to demonstrate love and compassion. Our hope was that local churches focus outward and partner with neighborhoods and organizations in a mobilized effort to care for the oppressed, restore broken relationships and bring healing to the entire Elk Grove region.

Why CityHope?
What is CityHope 2009?
The eight-week spiritual growth campaign, which started September 13, 2009, was a church-wide effort that will expand at the city-wide level to learn how Jesus’ love can be put into practice in their local area. Each church was provided with campaign resources that equipped each church to run the campaign at a church-wide level. Materials included curriculum for an eight-week small group study with DVD, a devotional book written by local pastors, a music CD, a city-wide prayer meeting schedule and weekend sermons for the pastors. Incorporated into the campaign was an opportunity for the local church to participate in city service projects to live out what we have learned through the spiritual journey.
Why CityHope?
All too often the church has taken a bad rap (often for good reasons), of being seen as judgmental rule-followers, who only care for themselves; money hungry, and hypocritical. Sadly, this is very far from the example Jesus set for us as how we should live and love. The message of Jesus is one that brings hope and life. The free gift offered to us through his sacrificial death on the cross compels us to live as changed individuals – with a purpose and a destiny. We are called to share this life and his generous love with those around us- whether it be our family, neighbors, or strangers. We are called to freely give. To love deeply. To forgive over and over again. And to draw others to the truth. God’s extreme example of love was the cross – when He became human flesh to walk among us, and to die on our behalf – perfect love casting out all fear – so that we might live forever with him. CityHope was all about sharing that message of truth in action – showing what Christians stand for, not what they don’t stand for. Following the model that Christ has set for us by loving, serving, forgiving, and walking in humility is our goal.
